Commissioning reminders for all nodes

This guide is for Snape 1.0 and Standalone. Other versions: Snape 2.0.

Reminders for every node

These apply to every node type. The step-by-step setup for each node is on its own page in this section.

  • Run the Network Test before mounting. At the exact deployment location, confirm at least 2 devices (Gateway or neighbouring nodes) are visible. Never mount a node that cannot see the network. See Range test (network & noise test).
  • Set an appropriate sampling rate. Choose a sampling rate that balances data resolution with battery life. Higher rates drain battery faster, so only use high frequencies where project specifications demand it.
  • Label your sensors consistently. Use a clear, consistent naming convention for Sensor Codes and Node Names from the outset (e.g., 'Pile_A1_VW_CH1'). This makes data exports, troubleshooting, and client reporting much cleaner.
  • Sync with the Gateway when you're done. Without this, the Gateway will not recognise newly commissioned nodes and data will not be collected. See Syncing nodes with the Gateway.

Before you close the lidTrigger a live reading and confirm values are within expected range, then press RESET once and close the lid. The node will then actively search for the Gateway and connect to it. Otherwise it takes longer to establish a connection.
