GeoArray overview

The Ackcio GeoArray is a continuous, in-place MEMS-based displacement monitoring system designed for long-term structural and geotechnical applications. It measures three-dimensional displacement profiles along the full length of an installation, providing automated, high-resolution insight into ground and structural movement over time.

Unlike manual inclinometer surveys or mechanical probe systems, GeoArray is a fixed, distributed sensor chain. Once installed, it continuously monitors deformation without requiring site visits, probe movement, or repeated manual readings.

Continuous displacement monitoring

GeoArray consists of multiple MEMS sensing segments connected in series. Each segment measures tilt and orientation, which are internally processed to calculate cumulative displacement along the array. The result is a continuous displacement profile, not discrete point readings.

Because the system is permanently installed, it avoids common issues associated with traditional systems such as probe jamming, access constraints, or inconsistent operator measurements.

Replacement for traditional IPI and manual inclinometer systems

GeoArray can directly replace:

  • Manual inclinometer surveys
  • In-Place Inclinometers (IPI)
  • Robotic inclinometer systems

Key advantages include:

  • No moving parts after installation
  • Faster measurement cycles
  • Lower long-term maintenance and operational cost
  • Better performance in large-deformation conditions
  • True automated monitoring suitable for early-warning systems

Flexible installation configurations

GeoArray is designed to adapt to different site conditions and monitoring objectives:

  • Vertical installation: commonly used in boreholes for slope stability, landslides, retaining walls, dams, and deep excavations. See Vertical installation.
  • Horizontal installation: suitable for settlement monitoring beneath embankments, roadbeds, foundations, and slabs, using a fixed reference point. See Horizontal installation.
  • Arch or curved installation: ideal for tunnel convergence monitoring, underground structures, and pipelines where deformation follows a curved geometry.

This flexibility allows a single sensing technology to cover multiple use cases without changing monitoring principles.

Integrated with Ackcio Digital Node and Gateway

GeoArray interfaces directly with the Ackcio Digital Node via RS485 and works seamlessly with Ackcio Gateways. Data is transmitted wirelessly to the Ackcio platform, enabling remote access, automated reporting, and alarm-based workflows.

With Ackcio’s Snape data visualization tools, users can:

  • View displacement profiles over time
  • Track cumulative and incremental movement
  • Correlate movement with other sensors
  • Export data for engineering analysis and reporting

Integrated with the Ackcio Digital Node

GeoArray interfaces directly with the Ackcio Digital Node via RS485. In Standalone mode the node stores the readings and you download them on site with the Ackcio Nimbus app.

Designed for long-term monitoring

GeoArray is engineered for harsh field environments and long service life:

  • MEMS-based sensing with internal processing
  • No external computation required
  • Low power consumption for remote deployments
  • Suitable for permanent or semi-permanent installations
