Dynamic monitoring & alarms

Dynamic monitoring

Instead of sending data only on a fixed schedule, the TM-L wakes up and transmits immediately when unusual movement is detected, capturing critical events in real time.

NoticeDynamic monitoring measures X and Y tilt axes only. It also measures all axes of acceleration. Enabling it will reduce battery life.

Alarms & thresholds

User-configurable warning limits can be set on the node. If tilt (X or Y) or any acceleration exceeds the threshold, the TM-L immediately sends an alert: ideal for early warning on structures, slopes or construction sites.

Acceleration measurement

The TM-L’s 3-axis accelerometer detects both slow structural tilt and sudden jolts or vibrations, providing visibility into gradual movement as well as fast dynamic events.

Sampling rate, alarm rate & alarm confirmation

Dynamic Monitoring is controlled by three configurable parameters. These must always be set in this order: Sampling Rate > Alarm Rate > Alarm Confirmation.

1Sampling Rate (normal reporting interval)

How often the sensor takes a reading and reports it under normal conditions.

  • Minimum: 1 minute (requires line-of-sight to GW 3.6.1).
  • This must always be the largest of the three values.

Best used: set it based on how frequently you need routine data. Shorter intervals give more granular data but consume more battery.

2Alarm Rate (alarm reporting interval)

Once the sensor detects that a tilt or acceleration threshold has been exceeded, it switches from the normal Sampling Rate to this faster interval, allowing closer monitoring during a potential event.

  • Must be shorter than the Sampling Rate.

Best used: fast enough to capture meaningful detail during an event, but not so fast that it drains the battery unnecessarily. A good rule of thumb is roughly 1/3 to 1/2 of your Sampling Rate.

3Alarm Confirmation (confirmation count)

The number of repeated threshold violations required before the system officially declares an alarm. It filters out false alarms caused by a single, isolated event (e.g. a passing vehicle or accidental knock).

  • Default: 0 (alarm declared immediately on first violation).

Best used:

  • Set to 0 for maximum sensitivity and immediate alerts (higher chance of false alarms).
  • Set to 1 or higher if you want the system to confirm the movement is sustained before alerting (fewer false alarms, slightly delayed response).

Alarm reset

Once readings return within the configured thresholds, the device automatically reverts back to normal Sampling Rate reporting.

NoticeAlarms apply only to X & Y tilt axes and all 3 acceleration axes (X, Y, Z). The Z tilt axis does not trigger alarms.
